Young’s Brewery
Young's Brewery occupied a site near the point where the Wandle joins the Thames. This site has been associated with brewing since 1576, although a pub called the Ram was there from 1550.
In 1831, Charles Allen Young and Anthony Fothergill Bainbridge purchased the brewery. The Young family continued to run the brewery until the site was sold in 2007. The last Chairman was John Young (known as Mr John), who was great-great- grandson of the founder.
The Ram brewery is said to have been the oldest British brewery in continuous operation until it left the site in 2007. The brewery moved to Bedford and is now Wells & Young. The Wandsworth site was sold to a developer called Minerva. At this time, the site is still undeveloped.
Several buildings on the site are listed including two beam engines.
The display in the museum tells the history of the Young family, their brewery and one or two quirkier tales.
